Backflushing

Backflushing is an essential step in maintaining the efficiency of plate heat exchangers, in sugar, starch, ethanol or other industries, working with high solids-content streams.
During the production process, plate heat exchangers can become clogged with impurities, reducing their effectiveness and increasing downtime and maintenance costs.

Backflushing is the reversal of flow for a short period of time, on the dirty stream. The reversed flow will flush out the solids accumulated in the plate heat exchanger inlet, keeping the exchangers working at their best.
